BAA Development Opportunities for Trainers

 


The following courses are available for trainers to further develop their skill sets.

All Training for Trainers (T4T) must be completed prior to training corresponding courses.

SOP T4T 

This two-day training for trainers provides an overview of the foundational theories and practices that comprise Safety Organize Practice (SOP). The training exposes the learner to the integrated approach of SOP and offers opportunities for practicing some of the concrete tools as well as explore the delivery of the SOP 2-Day Foundational Overview. SOP draws on a variety of methods and tools including trauma-focused practice, solution-focused therapy, cultural humility, motivational interviewing, and appreciative inquiry.

This course is designed to…

  • Help trainers gain a foundation knowledge of curriculum with the goal of being able to train others in the SOP concepts of conduct balanced, rigorous assessments that focus on both safety and danger as well as how to use conversations with families and their networks to facilitate change.

  • Provide trainers with an overview of the material and how to teach so that they can move to the next level of co-training the Foundational SOP class.

BAA University**

This four-day training will focus on how expectation for trainers who train for Bay Area Academy. These will include ethics, evaluation, training styles, curriculum training material, and other information designed to help trainers be effective at meeting the needs of the participants in the region.

The training will also include training techniques for trainers and ways to infuse strategies designed to meet all types of learning styles as well as whole brain learning.

This will be an interactive, participatory training that moves quickly.

 

 

Art of Coaching (AOC)*

The experiential course will immerse the participant into the culture of coaching and includes the following:

  • The definition of coaching

  • Identification of characteristics and principles necessary in the mindset of coaching

  • Coaching techniques

  • How to foster a learning environment that supports the development of trust and healthy conversations

  • How to recognize ways to implement coaching techniques as a part of the participant’s leadership role. 

The majority of this Academy will be practicing coaching skills using a variety of activities and simulated situations, each of which supports the goals of safety, permanence, and well-being. 

The first session, Days 1 and 2, will be followed by coaching support as the participant transfers the classroom learning into the workplace.  Participants will then return, approximately one month later, for Day 3.

Advanced Art of Coaching (AAOC) 

The  AoC  Academy is intended to provide  Supervisors and Managers who have undertaken BAA’s AoC with the confidence and competence to integrate coaching  techniques into their everyday supervision thus increasing their critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence and capacity to support the well-being of  their  staff. 

Consequently, social workers who are engaged and supported by their leadership will be encouraged to 
translate those values and approaches to the children and families they serve.

 

 

CANS Overview 

This one-day training gives participants an understanding of how California will use the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) as a strategy to meet the Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM) vision for creating behavioral objectives with families and teams. 

The ICPM articulates the shared values, core components, and standards of practice reflecting findings of current research that demonstrate how collaborative and integrated family services work best in meeting the complex needs of children, youth, non-minor dependents, and families involved with multiple, government-funded organizations.

The CANS is a multi-purpose tool designed to be the output of a collaborative assessment process. It supports care planning and decision-making, facilitates quality improvement initiatives, and allows for the monitoring of outcomes and services.

Using vignettes and small group activities, this six-hour, interactive session will prepare users for certification and use of the CANS.

Principles and best practices in using the CANS as an assessment strategy and tool to monitor outcomes and inform plans will be addressed.

Trauma-Informed Workforce

The Bay Area Academy is responding to the national call to address the need for trauma-informed approaches in child welfare. This conference will present innovations in resilience-building, trauma-informed child welfare that align with the California Child Welfare Core Practice Model. The conference aims to inspire and inform professionals and partners in child welfare regarding innovations in trauma informed services and lessons learned about how to embed trauma-informed strategies that promote resilience.

Conference Objectives

  • Identify evidence-based and promising practices in public child welfare that support resilience and healing in children and families.

  • Promote culturally specific practices in public child welfare that address historical trauma.

  • Increase understanding of the effects of worker resilience and secondary trauma on bias and decision-making in public child welfare.

  • Highlight effective CQI practices, policies and procedures that reinforce trauma-informed systems.
